Building the LogiCity logistics centre around Turku Airport

25.11.2006Printable version

City planners have approved LogiCity Phase I with around 400,000 square metres of floor space for logistics services, production, warehousing and offices. The area is designed for maximum logistical efficiency, and marketing is now underway

LogiCity Phase I plots are located on the southern and eastern flanks of Turku Airport and offer the opportunity to build some 400,000 square metres of floor space for logistics service providers and users. Planning for LogiCity Phase II is already in progress. Once the city plan for the northern side of the airport has been completed, LogiCity will have the capacity to build on more than one million square metres of floor space.

LogiCity is intended for all companies seeking value added from logistics and supply chain management. Such companies typically operate in the fields of e.g. transport and value added logistics, product assembly, the distribution centre business, warehousing and wholesale operations, and logistics functions for high-tech industries.

The LogiCity concept is based on logistical efficiency, where all modes of transport meet a diverse supply of logistics services to form an integral system. The core operating model is the location of value added transport and forwarding processes closest to the airport, while production and planning facilities will form a zone around it.

LogiCity’s unique strength is that it is located at the meeting point of all forms of transport. It is being built in an area bordered by the airport, railway terminals connecting East and West, the Tampere motorway, and the E18 ring road. The ports of Turku and Naantali are just a 15 minute drive away.

Targeted marketing communications to Finnish and international customer groups are underway. LogiCity is marketed by Pilot Turku Ltd, whose task is to promote the development of the Turku region in a significant logistics centre for Northern Europe.

Pilot Turku has re-designed its website to support the marketing and promotion projects and produced a virtual model of the Turku region’s attraction factors. Visit the new website and see the model at www.pilotturku.com.
