Schenker expansion completed in the Port of Turku

Turku’s position as the gateway to Scandinavia and Germany was further strengthened by the opening of the newly expanded Schenker logistics centre in the Port of Turku. Schenker’s premises have been enlarged by 10,000 square metres bringing the total floor area to some 32,500 square metres. The first part of the centre was completed in 2007 and the construction of the second part got underway in October 2008.
There is real demand for Schenker’s transport and warehousing services as companies continue to outsource, and the logistics centre swiftly filled up despite the extensive space on offer and the ongoing recession.

Christian Ramberg, Managing Director of the Port of Turku, explained that DB Schenker’s logistics centre is a key component of the Port’s operations. “In recent years the Port of Turku has invested decisively in the development of logistics operations. The centre is now working at full capacity and efficiently combining different modes of transport. This makes Turku one of the most pivotal transport centres in Finland.”
