Press release
SAS increases capacity on Turku–Copenhagen route22.10.2007 SAS is engineering a significant increase in its passenger flight capacity to and from Turku. The twin-engine MD–87 carrying 125 passengers is being introduced on the Turku–Copenhagen–Turku route, and as of 3rd December will operate the first flight out to Copenhagen in the morning and the last Copenhagen–Turku evening flight.
Daily capacity will rise by a total of more than 100 seats, up 74 per cent for the morning flight from Turku to Copenhagen and marking a 37 per cent increase on total capacity for the route. The morning and evening flights will be around 20 minutes shorter than at present.
Olli Aaltonen, Turku region Sales Director for SAS’s Finnish subsidiary Blue1, says that the upgrade is driven by purely commercial reasons as the morning and evening flights between Turku and Copenhagen are often fully booked.
The MD-87 will make flying more comfortable for business travellers and SAS is aiming to attract greater numbers of leisure travellers, too. We are also looking to encourage people to use Turku Airport and flight connections to and from there, says Mr Aaltonen.
