The Port of Turku is expanding its capacity for car imports. A completely new area will be built in Pansio next year with space for 2,500 cars. The present gravelled area for 5,000 cars next to the train ferry harbour is to be asphalted.
A total of 90,000 imported cars passed though the Port of Turku in 2006, compared with 60,000 two years earlier. A further increase of 10–20% is expected in 2007.
Turku currently handles the third largest volume of car imports to any Finnish harbour other than Kotka and Hanko.
