The national remote identification project

A national remote identification project is being implemented in the LogiCity area. This means placing special emphasis on facilitating the introduction of the technology while building up LogiCity’s infrastructure and premises, to set up remote identification services meeting companies’ specific needs. The new technology will also be piloted in a range of logistics processes and project implementation is being coordinated by the Technical Research Centre of Finland VTT.

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is a simple remote identification technology based on radio frequencies and enhances processes and logistics. The system comprises a scanner connected to the company’s information system and an RFID tag that is attached to the shipment. This enables swift remote identification of incoming goods and their location. Turnaround is optimised as time is saved e.g. in locating and sorting the goods. Wastage is cut and product safety improves.
